Conclusion of the EU – Singapore Free Trade Agreement

01 Mar 2019

On February 13, the European Parliament voted in favor of three agreements signed by the EU and Singapore in October 2018. The agreements are the European Union-Singapore Free Trade Agreement (EUSFTA), the EU-Singapore Investment Protection Agreement (EUSIPA) and the EU-Singapore Partnership Agreement (ESPCA).

The most anticipated agreement has been the EUSFTA, which is the first FTA concluded between the EU and an ASEAN member state. The agreement is expected to create new opportunities to expand trade between the EU and Singapore in many areas. In addition, the agreement ensures an open and rule based international trade order.

To highlight the agreement and to provide companies with a better understanding of the benefits of it, the EU Delegation together with the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Singapore Business Federation, Enterprise Singapore and EuroCham organized the event” The EU-Singapore FTA: What would it mean for your business?”. More than 200 Singaporean and European business representatives attended the event.

Trade Commissioner Emil Akander from Business Sweden spoke about business and investment opportunities in Sweden and the Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Singapore (SwedCham) participated with a booth.
