Swedish support to stop violence against women and girls!

04 Dec 2018

-“Joint Project Integrated Response to Violence against Women and Girls in Serbia”, is a project between 2016-2018, founded by the Swedish Development Cooperation in Serbia.

Violence against women is a complex social problem that appears globally as a consequence of gender inequalities, deeply rooted in the patriarchal norms and unbalanced power relations. The mentioned project works towards changing normative framework, institutional practices and behaviors pertaining to violence against women and girls at state, community and individual levels.

The project reaches out to women and girls but also men and boys in Serbia, possible or already registered victims of violence but also perpetrators of violence. Individuals, government, NGOs and people in local communities are mobilized within the project to act in joint efforts and eliminating violence against women, girls and children.

The project is a cooperation between the Embassy of Sweden in Belgrade and UNDP, together with other UN agencies; UNICEF, UN Women and UNFPA. The total budget for the project is 15 579 760 sek. This project is Sweden's first contribution within "Violence against women" in Serbia, but the Embassy has been working with women´s rights and gender equality for many years. The project is also a part of an overall focus-area for Swedish support, including support through the Ministry of Interior and NGO´s like Kinna till Kvinna.
