The Swedish accession to NATO is finalized. To celebrate this, a reception was held at the residence of the Swedish Ambassador. Ambassadors, Defence Attachés and representatives from #NATO allies in the Netherlands participated.
"As a nation we have made a free, democratic, sovereign, and united choice to join NATO. There is overwhelming support in our parliament and among our people" said Ambassador Oljelund, citing also how the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine had contributed to the Swedish and Finnish decisions to join NATO.
"We thank all NATO allies who have supported our accession and welcomed Sweden as the 32nd member of the alliance. We will live up to high expectations from all NATO allies" he concluded.
Sweden has diplomatic relations with almost all States in the world. It has embassies and consulates in around half of these. Sweden's foreign representation consists of approximately 100 missions abroad and 350 honorary consulates.
