Sweden and Oxfam- Ibis launch the 4th Edition of the Maputo Internet Forum (MIF)

Oxfam - Ibis, with the support of the Swedish Embassy, organized the 4th Edition of the Maputo Internet Forum (MIF). Under the theme "Promoting Access to Information", MIF aimed to bring together decision-makers, civil society, businessmen, academics and the general public to discuss access to information.

The Maputo Internet Forum originated from the Stockholm Internet Forum, which is internationally known as one of the main forums for debate on topics related to information technology and social and economic development.

In her opening remarks, Ambassador Marie Andersson de Frutos mentioned that Sweden celebrates 252 years since the adoption of the Law on Press Freedom and Access to Information, the first in the world on this issues, and highlighted the Swedish government's efforts in developing policies that promote greater use of the Internet as well as investment in infrastructures.

The Ambassador also spoke about the cooperation between Sweden and Mozambique dating back more than 40 years and the support for various development programs with a focus on women's participation and the promotion of women's use of technology. According to the Ambassador, Sweden has already disbursed around 500 million Meticais to support various initiatives under the AGIR Program.

In turn, the Rector of Eduardo Mondlane University, Orlando Quilambo, thanked Sweden for its support to MIF and for supporting Eduardo Mondlane University, a collaboration that has lasted for 40 years. According to him, the University is in the process of modernizing around 20 community radios and in the next few years, it will increase its technological and human capacity with the support of Swedish funds
