Job Vacancy: Communications Officer

The Embassy of Sweden in Mozambique represents the Swedish Government in the Republic of Mozambique. The Embassy is responsible for bilateral relations with Mozambique, Eswatini and Madagascar, with the overarching mission of preserving, protecting and developing relations.The Embassy implements the Swedish Government’s strategic orientation for the missions abroad and the government priorities in politics, promotion, development cooperation, migration and consular matters.

The Embassy of Sweden is currently seeking to recruit a communications officer based in Maputo. The position is full time (100%). The contract is 12 months with possibility of extension, the probationary period is one month.

Job Details

  • Develop the Embassy’s communication strategy and plan, and has responsibility for their implementation.
  • Responsible for elaboration of press releases.
  • Develop and post the embassy’s social media posts.
  • Update the embassy webpage in Portuguese and English when instructed.
  • Take photos and write texts in both Portuguese and English.
  • Manage all aspects of events (planning, procurement, implementation) organised by the embassy.
  • Maintain and develop a relevant media and communication contacts’ network.
  • Keep up to date with instructions from the Swedish government offices regarding communication and information and ensures compliance at the embassy.
  • Provide advice and training on communication to other embassy colleagues.
  • Work integrated with the whole Embassy, forming ad hoc groups when needed for special initiatives.
  • Organize outputs on a shared electronic platform (texts, photos, events).
  • Archiving of own projects.
  • Perform other tasks when needed.

 Profile

Solid knowledge and work experience in the field of communication, journalism, public relations, or social media management

  • Skills in traditional written press production as well as digital content.
  • Work experience and proactive work capacity with social media and modern communication tools.
  • Work experience in the field of development cooperation or within an international organization, or an embassy is an asset.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a team, as well as the ability to work independently.

 Requirements

  • University degree in a relevant field (Communication, Media, Journalism).
  • Excellent English and fluent Portuguese
  • Excellent editing and writing skills, as well as the ability to synthesize complex documents and present them to different target audiences.
  • Proactive, open-minded, dynamic, enjoys interacting with others, sense of creativity and innovation, interest in IT.
  • Intercultural (communication) skills with the ability to adapt to a diverse working environment; experience living abroad is an asset.
  • Good teamwork and coordination skills.
  • Availability to travel for professional reasons and open to work outside regular working hours if needed.
