The Swedish Embassy in Beirut/Damascus is recruiting an administrative office assistant for a part-time (50 %) and time limited employment. The Embassy is seeking a service minded, experienced and multi skilled person who can efficiently assist with a variety of administrative and logistical tasks at the embassy’s premises in Damascus.
Qualifications of Applicants:
Education: Basic university degree in business or public administration, communication, economics, languages, social sciences or related fields.
Experience: A minimum of three years working experience in a similar position or in a related area at an Embassy or in an international company is preferable, of which at least two years should be in the area of basic finances or accountancy.
Other Skills Requested:
· Have a valid driver’s license for Syria and proven experience of at least two years in driving.
· Excellent command of English and Arabic, both orally and in writing. Swedish language skill is of merit.
· Excellent intra-personal and communication skills. Service-minded, flexible and with a problem-solving approach.
· Ability to independently perform duties and to ensure the delivery and completion of tasks with attention to details, also under periods of a high workload.
· Ability to adapt to a different cultural environment and to changing responsibilities.
· Strong skills in Microsoft Office programs incl. Word and Excel.
· Have a high sense of responsibility and to be able to handle tasks with confidence and according to confidentiality terms.
The main duties and responsibilities of the position are:
-Arrange meetings and facilitate embassy activities in Syria;
-Overall responsibility for protocol matters linked to Syrian authorities;
-Support in contacts with Syrian authorities and local service providers;
-Answer general enquiries by letters and e-mails;
-Assist in organizing programs for visiting delegations;
-Assist with basic IT-related matters, for example instalment of new equipment, office wifi, problem solving in cooperation with HQ and Embassy in Beirut;
-Perform good quality translations of documents and Notes (English & Arabic);
-Handle and take responsibility for basic accountancy tasks and responsibility for petty cash;
-Assist with other administrative or logistical support tasks as requested by the Embassy.
Salary and benefits:
The embassy offers an attractive workplace and a good employment package. The position is time-limited but may be turned into a permanent position. The Embassy applies individual salary setting. The Embassy offers 28 days annual leave and local medical insurance.
Working hours will be determined for selected candidate in line with embassy needs and correspond to 50% of full-time employment.
Admission will be as early as possible in 2026 and according to agreement. Probationary employment is practiced.
The appointment follows the Embassy´s general terms and conditions for locally employed staff.
