In 2026, the Embassy of Sweden in Ethiopia celebrates 80 years of diplomatic relations between Sweden and Ethiopia – a milestone marking a long-standing partnership rooted in friendship, people-to-people ties, trade, development cooperation and shared values. As part of the anniversary celebrations, the Embassy invites submissions of photos and other images that reflect the past, present and future of relations between Sweden and Ethiopia. Contributions must be submitted no later than Thursday 30 April 2026.
We welcome creative and visually engaging submissions that highlight Sweden–Ethiopia relations. This may include products such as design, technology, mobility, lifestyle items and industrial goods, as well as literature, music, cultural objects, memorabilia or everyday scenes where something Swedish appears in Ethiopia, or something Ethiopian appears in Sweden.
We encourage creativity, storytelling and authenticity. You are also welcome to include a short caption explaining the significance of the image and your personal connection to it.
Submissions may be made in three categories:
Historical images illustrating Sweden–Ethiopia relations over the past 80 years — from official photographs to personal memories and stories.
Photos capturing contemporary Sweden–Ethiopia relations — from Swedish products in Ethiopia and cultural events to everyday connections, such as injera in Sweden.
Images that imagine the future of Sweden–Ethiopia relations. In this category, we welcome not only photography, but also painting, drawing and animation.
Selected contributions will be featured on the Embassy’s social media channels, which reach around 100,000 followers, at a dedicated exhibition, and potentially in an anniversary publication.
Creators of selected images will be asked to sign a copyright consent form allowing the Embassy to use the material for non-commercial purposes.
Selected contributors will receive a signed diploma and a symbolic token of appreciation.
