Endre Nemes (1909-1985) was a Hungarian-Swedish artist who grew up in Löcsöe and in Igló, which was in Hungary until 1918 and then in Czechoslovakia. He studied philosophy for a period in Vienna in 1927 and art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in 1930-34 under Willi Nowak.

Nemes, who was of Jewish origin, fled Czechoslovakia in 1938 and, after living in Finland and Norway, moved to Sweden.  He had his first solo exhibition in 1941 in Stockholm. He became a Swedish citizen in 1948.

Nemes was the director and innovator of the Valand Art School in Gothenburg from 1947 to 1955. He has made a name for himself with several major public artworks and was a pioneer in Sweden in the use of enamels as public art. When he came to Valand Art School, a whole new era in the school's history began. In 1984, he became an honorary doctor at the University of Gothenburg.

Nemes is represented at the National Museum, the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, the Gothenburg Art Museum and the Kalmar Art Museum, among others.
