Artist: Reinhold Holterman (1899-1960)

   

Reinhold Oscar Christian Holtermann (1899-1960) was a Swedish painter and draughtsman.

After graduating from Norra Latin in 1918, Holtermann was a student at Althin's School of Painting in Stockholm in 1918-1919, studied with Oscar Björck at the Academy of Fine Arts in 1920-1925, and with Jean Marchand in Paris in 1930-1931. He completed his education by travelling around Europe.

Holtermann had a solo exhibition at Galerie Moderne in Stockholm in 1938, Konsthallen in Gävle in 1941, Gummesons Konsthall in Stockholm in 1942 and Lilla Galleriet in Stockholm in 1947. He also participated in several group exhibitions. He was also a member of the Academy of Fine Arts.

In recent years, Holtermann has been highlighted as one of the pioneers of Swedish experimental film, including in the 2010 book "A History of Swedish Experimental Film Culture". He is represented in the Moderna Museet and the Gävle Museum, among others.
