1: How do I apply for a passport/ID-card?

To apply for a passport or ID-card you need to book an appointment online

You must visit the embassy in person to provide fingerprints, have your photo taken, and sign your application on the passport machine.

The following documents in original are needed when applying for a passport/ID-card for adults:

  • Valid passport
  • Complete and print the form "Verification of Swedish citizenship". 
  • A current newly issued Austrian "Meldebestätigung"
  • An international birth certificate if you are born outside of Sweden and have never been registered in Sweden
  • In some cases, you also need a certificate that you have retained Swedish citizenship, or a citizenship declaration from the Swedish Migration Agency (Losing or retaining Swedish citizenship)
  • In some cases, the embassy may require additional documents to establish citizenship

Application for Childern under 18 years old:

The child must visit the embassy in person to have a photo taken in the passport machine.

The following documents in original are needed when applying for a passport/ID-card for children:

  • Valid passport for the child
  • Both parents' valid passports. 
  • Complete and print the form "Verification of Swedish citizenship" for the child. 
  • Complete and print the form "Guardian's certificate". (If the child only has one guardian we need to see legally valid proof)
  • A current newly issued Austrian "Meldebestätigung"
  • An international birth certificate if the child is born outside of Sweden and has never been registered in Sweden
  • In some cases, the embassy may require additional documents to establish citizenship
