Are you a trained chef and would you be interested in promoting Swedish food culture in Austria to an international audience? We are looking for a part-time chef (31 hours/week), starting on 1 October, or as agreed.
The Embassy of Sweden in Vienna is responsible for Sweden's relations with Austria and Slovakia as well as the UN organisations in Vienna. The Embassy is located in a compound together with the Permanent Delegation of Sweden to the OSCE. Both missions share a joint representation space in the Schwedenhaus, a listed property from the 1880s in central Vienna that is owned and managed by the Swedish state. Schwedenhaus has extensive representation for both the embassy and the OSCE delegation. Here, Swedish culinary art of high quality is presented in an international context.
In this position, you will work in an active team together with our second chef and event coordinator. As a chef, you plan, prepare and carry out breakfasts, lunches, dinners, buffets, receptions and events of a larger and smaller nature in consultation with your team and the hosts of the embassy/OSCE delegation. The tasks also include menu and beverage planning, purchasing, kitchen finances as well as maintaining good hygiene and handling food in a correct way. Everything in our kitchen is prepared fresh from scratch, from classic Swedish meatballs to bread and pastries.
For the position, you should have relevant education in kitchen/restaurant, several years of professional experience as a chef, experience of menu and drink planning and experience of pâtisserie.
As a person, you are responsible, meticulous, flexible, service-oriented and have very good collaboration skills. You work in a structured and solution-oriented way. You are prepared to work part-time and together with our experienced chef.
We are looking for someone who has a strong commitment to creating and developing high-class Swedish food experiences and who contributes to our team with creativity and proactivity.
You need to have the ability to perform under pressure during peak hours, for example before and during major events, as well as the ability to work flexible working hours in accordance with the needs of the position. Work in the evenings is frequent, work on weekends and holidays may be required. These occasions are compensated with compensatory time.
Experience and good knowledge of Swedish or Nordic food tradition and cuisine are strong merits. Interest in and knowledge in related areas such as flower decoration are also meritorious.
A basic command of English or German is necessary. Knowledge of Swedish is an advantage. You must also have a valid work permit in Austria.
Type of employment: Permanent employment, local employment in Austria
Part time (80% of a full-time position). The number of vacation days is based on the number of working days per week.
Starting date 1 October 2026, or as agreed with the applicant.
Salary as agreed. Individual salary setting is applied.
