Medical travel insurance

Visa applicants are required to have a valid travel medical insurance. It must cover any costs that may be incurred in connection with emergency medical aid, urgent hospital treatment or transport to the country of origin for medical reasons or in the event of death.

The minimum coverage must be EUR 30 000, the insurance must be valid in all Schengen countries and be valid for the entire duration of first the intended stay.

When applying, you must be able to provide proof that you have travel medical insurance. You should also take your insurance certificate with you during the trip since you may need to show it, e.g. at an entry checkpoint.

There are several insurance companies in the UAE offering this type of insurance.

Exemptions

Certain occupational groups may be exempt from the insurance requirement if they already have adequate insurance in connection with their profession, e.g. seafarers.

Others exempted from the travel medical insurance requirement are:

  • Holder diplomatic passports
  • Applicant for airport transit visas
