Development and aid

Sweden has a long tradition of generous and ambitious development aid. The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) aims to improve conditions for people living in poverty and oppression. Sida works on behalf of the Swedish government and parliament and the agency’s activities are funded through Swedish tax revenue.

Swedish development aid is channelled through a wide range of partners from different sectors, including civil society organisations, multilateral organisations, research institutions, public and private sector.

Humanitarian assistance refers to Sweden’s activities to save lives, reduce suffering and protect people affected by armed conflict, natural disasters and other crises.
