Information regarding citizens of Rwanda applying for a Schengen visa to Sweden
As of 18 August 2026, persons residing in Rwanda can apply for a Schengen visa to Sweden through VFS Global in Kigali. More information about the application process and appointment booking is available on VFS Global’s website: VFS Global.
The processing of visa applications will continue to be carried out by the posted staff of the Swedish Migration Agency at the Embassy of Sweden in Nairobi, Kenya. You can find more information about requirements for different types of visas on the website of the Embassy of Sweden in Nairobi.
Please also note that you will not retain your passport during the processing period, as it will be forwarded for processing. The application process for a Schengen visa normally takes 15 days, but in some cases it may be extended to up to 45 days.
