How to apply

Your visa application should be submitted at one of VFS Global’s application centers.

If you have already left your biometrics for a Schengen visa within the last 59 months, a third person can apply for a visa on your behalf and collect your passport. He/she must present a power of attorney signed by you and identify himself/herself. Power of attorney issued by organizations or companies on behalf of their employees or partners are not accepted.

How you proceed in applying for a visa is described step-by-step at the VFS Global website.

The Embassy decides whether you are to be granted a visa, not VFS Global. In certain cases, the matter is referred to the Swedish Migration Agency for a decision.

The consideration period may take up to 15 calendar days (and in individual cases may be extended up to 45 calendar days) according to the Visa Code.

The consideration period starts counting from the day your application reaches the Embassy if it is considered admissible (complete). If the Embassy requests additional information in your case, the consideration period will be counted from the day we receive the requested documents.

You can submit your application at the earliest six months (nine months for seafarers) and no later than 15 calendar days before your intended visit. Apply as far in advance as possible, especially during the peak season (December and June).
