Migration matters for residents of New Zealand

If you have applied for a residence permit or work permit for Sweden, the Swedish Migration Agency may instruct you to contact a Swedish embassy to schedule an in-person appointment. This may be required either during the application process or after a decision has been made.

Residents of New Zealand

The Embassy of Sweden in Canberra, Australia, is responsible for handling Swedish migration matters for residents of New Zealand. This includes receiving applicants who have been asked by the Swedish Migration Agency to visit the embassy as part of their application process. In general, you should not contact the embassy unless you have been instructed to do so by the Swedish Migration Agency.

If you live in New Zealand and are applying for, or already hold, a Swedish residence permit or work permit, you can visit the Embassy of Sweden in Canberra if you want to:

• Submit a paper application for a residence or work permit (if an online application is not possible)
• Complete an application for a visitor’s residence permit (after submitting an online application)
• Attend an interview (only if requested by the Swedish Migration Agency)
• Have your passport checked (only if requested by the Swedish Migration Agency)
• Have your fingerprints and photograph taken (for the issuance of a residence permit card)
• Obtain a copy of the Swedish Migration Agency’s complete decision
• Obtain your issued residence permit card
