Visiting Sweden

If you want to visit Sweden and are a citizen of a non-EU country, you may need a visa. A visa is a permit to travel to and stay in a country for a maximum of 90 days. If you intend to stay in Sweden for longer than 90 days you will need a visitors’ residence permit.

Malian citizens need a visa and citizens from the following countries/territories also require a visa when entering Sweden, check the list.

Within the framework of the Schengen cooperation regarding visas, Sweden is represented by the Embassy of Denmark in Bamako. Similarly, Sweden represents other Schengen states in a number of places. Here is a list of the countries and places where there are representations.

13 October 2022 – Information from the Danish Embassy regarding processing time for visa applications:

“Due to an unusually high volume of visa applications, the processing time is currently longer than usual. The processing time is therefore 25 days from the day of deposit at VFS Global. We strive to reduce processing time and regret any inconvenience caused by the longer processing time. There may be less appointment availability at VFS Global.

Right now the time schedule slot is complete, and we only take visa applications in from 31/10.”

More information on how to apply for a visa for other citizens as well as general information is found on Swedish Migration Agency.
