Visit Sweden’s Mission abroad in Australia

For citizens/non-EU residents of Australia, in-person visits required in matters concerning residence permits/work permits for Sweden are handled by Sweden’s Mission abroad in Australia, which is the Embassy of Sweden in Canberra. It is not possible to visit any of Sweden’s Honorary Consulates in Australia.

To visit the Embassy of Sweden in Canberra in a matter concerning a residence permit/work permit for Sweden, a pre-booked appointment is required. Appointments for in-person visits can be booked for the following reasons.

  • You want to apply for a residence permit to visit Sweden for more than 90 days, or another type of residence permit/work permit for Sweden for which there is no option to apply online through the Swedish Migration Agency’s website.
  • You have a pending application for a residence permit/work permit for Sweden, and have received an email from the Swedish Migration Agency informing you that an in-person visit at a Swedish Mission abroad is required before a decision can be made in the case. (Appointments for in-person visits in pending cases cannot be reserved or booked if a visit has not yet been requested by the Swedish Migration Agency).

  • You have been notified that your application for a residence permit/work permit for Sweden has been settled and a decision has been made in your case, and want to collect a copy of the Swedish Migration Agency’s decision document.
  • You have been granted a residence permit for Sweden, and want to have your fingerprints and photograph taken in order to obtain a residence permit card (proof of a temporary or permanent residence permit).

  • You have been notified that your residence permit card has arrived, and want to collect it.
