Coordination numbers in the Netherlands

Swedish citizens who have never held a Swedish passport, national identity card or been registered in Sweden must apply for a coordination number in order to apply for a Swedish passport or national identity card.

If the guardians of a newborn child have not registered their name, it can done at the same time.

Application for a coordination number is made at the embassy only if the purpose is to apply for a passport/national ID card. The application is made during a personal visit to the embassy, and requires a pre-booked appointment.

The embassy then forwards the application to the Swedish Tax Agency, which handles the case. It is not you who orders the coordination number for your child. The processing time for coordination numbers is approximately 6-10 weeks. Once the coordination number has been assigned, the applicant can book an appointment to apply for a passport/national identity card.

Application for children under 18 years

Please note that both guardians and the child must be present when applying for a coordination number.

Mandatory forms

All documents must be original documents.

  1. Registration SKV 7750 (name registration)
If the name has not yet been notified, the form SKV 7750 must be filled in, printed and signed by the childs guardians.

Documents to be included in the original

  1. Guardians must prove their identity with a passport or other valid ID document.
  2. A birth certificate with information about the child and the parents is needed to prove parenthood.
  3. A woman who is registered in the population register in Sweden (or who has been registered in the population register in Sweden but who is now deregistered from the population register) who gives birth abroad must be able to prove that she gave birth to the child. In order to prove the mother/child relationship, it is not sufficient to produce only a birth certificate, a pregnancy certificate, birth record or the like, which shows that it is the woman who has given birth to the child.
  4. The Swedish parent’s Dutch birth certificate (Basisregistratie Personen, BRP) from the Dutch municipality where the parent is registered. The birth certificate shall state the Swedish nationality. The birth certificate may not be older than one month.
  5. Marriage certificate or paternity recognition if the parents are not married

When the coordination number is ready, the decision is notified to the applicant. You must then apply for a passport within three (3) months. If the passport is not applied for within three months, the coordination number will be cancelled. Neither a reminder of the deadline nor a notification of the withdrawal of the coordination number will be communicated to the applicant.

Book an appointment for a coordination number

To apply for a coordination number, you need to make an appointment. Contact the Embassy at: ambassaden.haag-pass@gov.se

Coordination numbers may have different statuses

  • Active
  • Declared dormant

A coordination number will be suspended at the end of the fifth calendar year if no notification or application for renewal has been received by the Swedish Tax Agency.

If you have a valid passport, it is valid until the expiry date even if a coordination number is suspended. When you apply for a new passport, the responsible passport authority will request the renewal of the coordination number.

For information about the status of your coordination number and when it is suspended, please contact the Swedish Tax Agency, which is the responsible authority.

If you have a coordination number and move, you must report a new address to the Swedish Tax Agency. It can either be an address in Sweden or an address in another country, but not both.

You also need to notify the Swedish Tax Agency if you change your personal data such as name or citizenship.
