You may apply for a passport at the Embassy in Tel Aviv, at the Consulate General in Jerusalem, or at another Swedish mission abroad. If you apply for a passport at another issuing authority, you may choose at the time of application to collect the passport at the Embassy or the Consulate General.
When renewing a passport or national ID card for children under the age of 18, the following is required:
Please note: All documents must be originals. Documents in languages other than Swedish or English must be translated into one of these languages by a certified translator.
On 1 September 2023, the new Act on Coordination Numbers entered into force. A coordination number may continue to be either active or dormant.
The new law also introduces four identity levels linked to the coordination number. In order to apply for a passport or national ID card, the coordination number must have the highest level, Verified Identity. The status and level of the coordination number affect the application requirements for a passport or national ID card.
If the child lacks a valid Swedish identity document, the same documents that were presented at the first application for the coordination number must be presented again.
If a child with a dormant coordination number applies for a passport, the application will be put on hold pending a decision from the Swedish Tax Agency.
The fee for a passport application is 1,600 SEK, payable in local currency at the time of application by debit or credit card.
Appointments can only be booked via our website – not by telephone or e-mail. If the booking page states “there are currently no available appointments,” this means that all bookable times have been filled. New appointments are published on the 15th every third month, that is, on 15 February, May, August and November. If the 15th falls on a weekend or public holiday, the appointments will be published on the next business day. Due to staffing changes, we are publishing available appointment slots one month at a time during the spring.
Due to high demand, the passport section currently has long waiting times. Cancellations occur frequently, however, and we therefore recommend that you check the booking page regularly. If you are unable to attend your booked appointment, we kindly ask that you cancel it using the link you received when making the booking, so that others may use the time slot.
Passport collection is available on Wednesdays and Thursdays between 13:00 and 15:00 – no appointment is required. Passports and national ID cards are produced in Sweden and sent to the Embassy. It takes approximately 2–3 weeks from the time the application is approved until the passport is ready for collection at the Embassy.
