You can apply for a passport, national ID card, or temporary passport at the Embassy in Tel Aviv, the Consulate General in Jerusalem, or another Swedish mission abroad. You can also apply for a passport and ID card at the police in Sweden. Personal attendance is required both when applying and when collecting the passport or ID card.
The Embassy in Tel Aviv handles passport and ID card matters only by appointment. Appointments can only be booked via our website (opens in a new tab) – not by phone or email. If the booking page says “no available appointments at the moment,” it means there are currently no bookable slots. New appointments are published on the 14th every third month.
Once you’ve booked an appointment for a passport application, you will receive an email with your reference number and a link to cancel or reschedule. Save the email – without the reference number and link, you cannot cancel or reschedule your appointment.
Due to high demand at the passport section, waiting times are currently long. Cancellations occur frequently, so we recommend checking the booking page regularly. Please remember to cancel or reschedule your appointment if you can no longer attend. This helps others find a time for their passport application.
For passport collection, please refer to the reception’s specific opening hours for passport pick-up (opens in a new tab), no appointment required.
If you are applying for a passport or ID card abroad, you are required to prove your Swedish citizenship. This must be done at every application occasion. Even if you reside in Sweden, but the passport authority is unsure of your citizenship status, it must investigate this.
Therefore, you must download and complete the form “Verification of Swedish Citizenship.” The completed, filled-in form and other requested documentation must be brought with you when visiting the embassy.
In the menu, you will find information about the applicable rules and which documents you need to prepare before your visit.
Please note: Documents in languages other than Swedish or English must be translated by a certified translator into one of these languages.
You can also apply for a passport/ID card at the Consulate General in Jerusalem or another passport authority abroad. You may still choose to collect the passport/ID card at the Embassy in Tel Aviv. This is subject to a fee equivalent to 200 SEK, payable in local currency at the time of collection.
You can also apply for a passport/ID card in Sweden. It is usually cheaper and faster to collect. Alternatively, you may choose to have the passport/ID card sent to the Embassy in Tel Aviv or the Consulate General in Jerusalem for collection.
More information on how to apply and book an appointment is available on the Swedish Police website. Note that the same application requirements apply in Sweden as at the Embassy in Tel Aviv.
