The Embassy orders coordination numbers for newborn children and persons who had never had a Swedish passport, national ID card or been registered in Sweden before a passport application can be made. It is the Embassy that orders a coordination number and not you as a guardian. The Embassy is only allowed to order coordination numbers to Swedish citizens. If the guardians of a newborn child have not registered their name, this is done at the same time.
Name registration
When a child is born abroad the guardian can report the birth directly to the Tax Agency (Skatteverket). This applies if you are or have been registered in Sweden. The application is made on this form Name and Surname - Application (SKV 7750) | Tax Agency
If the guardians of a newborn child have not registered their name, this is done at the same time when ordering a coordination number at the Embassy. Bring completed form SKV 7750.

If you have a valid passport, it is valid until the last day of validity, even if a coordination number is suspended/ declared dormant. When you apply for a new passport, the responsible passport authority will request the renewal of coordination number.
For information on the status of you coordination number and when it is suspended/ declared dormant, please contact the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket), which is the responsible authority.
