5: Which documentation is needed to apply for a marriage certificate?

If you are deregistered from Sweden and intend to marry at a foreign authority, you can apply for a marriage certificate at the embassy or a consulate.

You need the following documents in original:

  • Passport from you and your future spouse

  • Form SKV 7881 from the Swedish Tax Agency

  • Austrian "Meldebestätigung", or similar document showing where you and your future spouse are registered (not older than three months)

  • For the applicant: "Personbevis" from the Swedish Tax Agency Utdrag om folkbokföringsuppgifter – 120 med alla relationer . Not older than three months.  (If the applicant has never resided in Sweden, an international birth certificate must be shown instead)

  • A document from austrian authorities (Amtsbestätigung) that state that you aren't married or in a registered partnership.

  • If the applicant was already married, a legally binding divorce decree is required.

Here you can find Information to foreign authorities | Skatteverket.

Do you want to register your foreign marriage in Sweden or do you have further questions about marriage abroad? Please visit the Swedish Tax Agency's website for more information.
