When a passport or national ID card arrives at the Embassy

When your Swedish passport or national ID card has arrived at the Embassy of Sweden in Canberra, you will automatically receive a notification from the Swedish Police Authority. This applies in all cases, regardless of where the document is to be collected.

The steps you need to take once the document has arrived to the Embassy of Sweden in Canberra depend on whether you wish to collect the document at the Embassy or an honorary consulate, and whether you have already provided this information at an earlier time.

Fees

Any postage fee and/or collection fee is payable at the time of collection.

Collecting your document at the Embassy in Canberra

Collecting your document at a previously selected honorary consulate

If you have already informed the Embassy of Sweden in Canberra or another passport authority (which has made a note in your case) that the document is to be collected at a Swedish honorary consulate, it will automatically be forwarded by the Embassy. You do not need to contact the Embassy again when you receive the automatic notification from the Swedish Police Authority. The Embassy will notify you via email when the document has been sent to the previously selected honorary consulate.

Requesting collection at an honorary consulate

If you wish to collect the document at an honorary consulate that you have not previously notified the Embassy of Sweden in Canberra about, please contact the Embassy by email at ambassaden.canberra-pass@gov.se and provide:

  • The applicant's full name and Swedish personal identity number (personnummer) or coordination number (samordningsnummer).
  • The honorary consulate to which the document should be sent.

When a document is sent from the Embassy

When a passport or national ID card has been forwarded from the Embassy to an honorary consulate, the Embassy will send you an email with information about the next steps in the process and instructions regarding collection.
