The time it takes for a Swedish passport or national ID card to reach the selected collection point after an application has been submitted at the Embassy of Sweden in Canberra varies from case to case.
The Embassy is unable to provide an estimate in advance of the processing time for an individual application or when the completed document is expected to be ready for collection.
Preparations

If additional information is required
If additional information or documents need to be submitted after your appointment, the processing time may be extended.
- If documents proving identity or Swedish citizenship were missing at the time of application, you may be required to submit additional documentation.
- In some cases, additional documents or information may be required to establish Swedish citizenship through previous generations.
- If additional documentation is required, the Embassy will contact you by email with information about which documents need to be submitted and how to submit them.
Delivery after an application has been approved
Once an application has been processed and approved, production of the passport or national ID card begins. The completed document is then sent to the collection point selected at the time of application, either a passport authority abroad or a passport office in Sweden.
- Passports and national ID cards to be collected abroad are forwarded via the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Sweden to the relevant passport authority.
- If the application was submitted at the Embassy of Sweden in Canberra and the document is also to be delivered there, it normally takes up to approximately four weeks from the date the application is approved until the document arrives at the Embassy.
- If the passport or national ID card is to be collected at an honorary consulate, additional time is required for onward delivery from the Embassy.
