For Swedes in Australia

Loss of passport and national ID card

If your Swedish passport or national ID card has been lost or stolen in Australia, you should report the loss as soon as possible and ensure that the document is blocked so that it cannot be used by anyone else.

On the Swedish Police’s website, you can find information about what to do if your passport or national ID card is lost or stolen, including how the document can be blocked.

Report the loss to the police

If the loss or theft has occurred in Australia, you should report the incident to the local Australian police.

Block the document

Once you have filed a police report, you can have the document blocked by:

  • contacting the Swedish Police on +46 77 114 14 00, or
  • visiting the Embassy of Sweden in Canberra or one of Sweden’s honorary consulates in Australia and presenting the police report. You must also be able to identify yourself by presenting valid photo ID.

The police report can be presented at the Embassy or an Honorary Consulate either in connection with an application for a new passport or national ID card, or during a separate visit.

Apply for a new passport or national ID card

Information about how to apply for a new passport or national ID card  in Australia can be found here: Passport and national ID card.

Emergency passport

If you are in Australia and your passport has been lost or stolen, and you have a return flight back to Sweden, you may, under certain circumstances, apply for an emergency passport if there is insufficient time to obtain a new ordinary passport before departure. More information can be found here: Emergency passport.
