If you have had a child outside Sweden, you may need to contact different Swedish authorities if you are seeking information about for example Swedish citizenship, civil registration in Sweden, or Swedish passports.

Matters relating to civil registration in Sweden are handled by the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket).
On the Swedish Tax Agency’s website, you can find information for you who are a new parent, including what applies for civil registration and registation of the child's name when a child is born outside Sweden.

If your child is a Swedish citizen and you plan to apply for a Swedish passport or national ID card for the child outside Sweden, the child must have been assigned an identity number (personal identity number or coordination number) by the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket) before an application can be submitted.
If your child already has a personal identity number or coordination number and you wish to apply for a Swedish passport or national ID card for the child in Australia, please see: Instructions: Application for minor (under 18).
If your child has not been assigned an identity number by the Swedish Tax Agency and you plan to apply for their first Swedish passport or national ID card outside Sweden, you must first apply for a coordination number for the child. An application for a passport or national ID card can only be submitted once the coordination number has been assigned.
