Changes to migration cases from 1 December 2025

Changes for those living in Zimbabwe who want to apply for a visa or residence and work permit in Sweden

As of 1 December, the embassy in Harare will no longer handle migration cases. You should instead contact the foreign missions in Lusaka, Zambia or Pretoria, South Africa.

You who are citizens of Zimbabwe, or live here, have until now turned to the Swedish embassy in Harare to apply for a residence and work permit.

From 1 December, 2025, you should instead personally visit the foreign mission in Lusaka, Zambia or in Pretoria, South Africa the area to, for example, conduct an interview or a passport control or provide biometric data. If you have already submitted an application to the embassy in Harare and are now, for example, waiting to receive your residence permit card, you will be contacted.

Schengen Visa

If you are a citizen or reside in Zimbabwe and wish to apply for a Schengen visa, you should submit your application at VFS Global’s office in Harare. Your application and passport will be sent to the embassy in Nairobi who is responsible for applications from Zimbabwe and will make a decision.

Passport and decision will then be sent back to VFS Global where you can pick them up. Please note that the embassy in Harare will not be able to answer questions about Schengen visas.
