Swedish Midsummer 2026

12 Jun 2026, 12.00 AM

The annual Swedish Midsummer celebration returns to the National Mall in DC on June 12. Join us to celebrate one of Sweden’s most beloved traditions—right in the heart of the nation's capital!

This year’s celebration also takes place as the United States marks its 250th anniversary, honoring our long-shared history that stretches back nearly four centuries, when the early settlers of New Sweden came to the Delaware river. Midsummer offers a joyful opportunity to celebrate these enduring ties and the close friendship between Sweden and the United States.

Last year, nearly 4,000 people—families, students, Washingtonians, and visitors from across the region—joined us on the lawn of the Sylvan Theater for an evening of dancing, music, and cultural exchange.

This year’s celebration builds on that energy with a lively program featuring classic Midsummer traditions such as flower wreath making, dancing around the Midsummer pole, and live performances, including:

  • Flower wreath making
  • Dancing around the Midsummer pole
  • High-energy hits spun by DJ G-MONEY
  • Swedish cover band 'One Hell of a Band' will deliver Swedish and American hits, incl. music from ABBA, Roxette, and Ace of Base to timeless American favorites
  • Lawn games and fun for all ages

Bring your friends, your family, a flower wreath, a picnic blanket, and whatever food your heart desires—everyone is welcome to this free and festive celebration.

We look forward to welcoming you for an evening of summer light, culture, and community on the National Mall!
