EXHIBITION: Swedish Footprints in the United States - Celebrating 250 Years of Shared History

09 Mar 2026

For nearly four centuries, people of Swedish descent have helped shape the United States—from the early settlers of New Sweden in the 1600s to the innovators, entrepreneurs, artists, activists, athletes, public servants, and cultural figures of today.

Highlighting individuals who lived, worked, or built their careers in the United States, this exhibition explores the distinct experiences and cultural expressions that emerged within the Swedish American community.

Presented in commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Declaration of Independence, it traces the diverse stories and enduring legacies of Swedish Americans through prints, photographs, videos, and music—revealing how their contributions continue to influence the nation’s evolving story.

Group tours of the exhibition are offered based on availability. For inquiries, please contact the Embassy at: swedeninusa@gov.se
