Swedes in the UN

Sweden became a member of the United Nations (UN) in 1946 and today about 340 Swedes work within the UN system around the world. The UN is a central arena for Sweden's efforts to address global challenges. Sweden is one of the largest contributors to the UN system and one of the few countries that meet the UN's aid goal of 0.7 percent of GNI.

Sweden also contributes to the UN system through the many Swedes working within the organization worldwide. Sweden aims to increase the number of Swedes in strategic positions within the UN system, with an overall goal to increase the impact of Swedish priorities Therefore, the Permanent Mission of Sweden to the UN in New York provides information and support to Swedes seeking employment within the UN and maintains a continuous dialogue with Swedes already working in the organization.
