Bio Ambassador Anna Karin Eneström

Ambassador Anna Karin Eneström is the Permanent Representative of Sweden to the United Nations since December 2019.

Ambassador Eneström is a Swedish diplomat with extensive experience from several top positions worldwide. She has served as the Representative to the Political and Security Committee at the Permanent Representation of Sweden to the European Union in Brussels, she was the Special Envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan, and the Swedish Ambassador to Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Prior to her current appointment as Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Eneström was the Director-General for Political Affairs at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs (MFA) and the Head of Secretariat at the Swedish MFA, where Ambassador Eneström led Sweden’s successful candidacy to the UN Security Council. 

In addition to her current position as PR, Ambassador Eneström’s experience from United Nations affairs includes serving as Deputy Chef de Cabinet of the Office of the President of the General Assembly, as Minister Counsellor and Head of the Political Section at the Swedish Mission to the United Nations, and as Counsellor and Legal Adviser, also at the Swedish Mission.

Ambassador Eneström holds a Master of Law from Uppsala University in Sweden. She is married to Swedish Diplomat Per Enarsson and they have two children.
