We are looking for an experienced chef

The Consul General of Sweden is looking for a chef to join the residence team

The Consulate General is situated in the Swedish Palace in Beyoğlu, an architectural and cultural heritage site built in 1870. The Consulate General carries out a wide range of cultural and promotional activities in the official residence. 

The chef will work in both the official and the private Residence of the Consul General, as part of the wider Consulate General team.

Responsibilities

Working closely with the housekeeper/house manager, you will have overall responsibility for the official entertainment in the Swedish Palace. Duties include: 

  • Prepare food for luncheons, dinner parties, receptions, and other events.
  • Plan menus and purchase required ingredients.
  • Taking care of all kitchen equipment, including ordering replacements when needed.
  • Supervising auxiliary kitchen staff on larger events.
  • Closely coordinating with the Consul General’s office regarding events.
  • Participate in overall planning of larger events such as national day receptions, etc.

The chef also has overall responsibility for the cleanliness of the kitchen, and for the care and maintenance of kitchen inventory.

Qualifications

We would expect the successful candidate to have the following qualifications:

  • Experience working as a highly qualified chef, experience from foreign missions is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Swedish and/or Scandinavian cuisine and food philosophy
  • Knowledge of international and Turkish cuisine
  • Interest in vegetarian cuisine and ecological and sustainable food is desirable.
  • Strong sense of responsibility, ability to perform independently with consistent care and high quality.
  • High level of integrity.
  • An open and flexible approach, with a desire to develop as a professional and as part of the team of the Swedish Palace

Knowledge of English is an advantage.

General conditions

Salaries are individual and competitive. Vacation 28 days per year, SGK plus additional medical insurance and work attire.

The chef is employed by the Consul General personally. The employment will start with a trial period.

The working week is 40 hours on average, but the amount of work varies from week to week. Sometimes the hours will be longer, partially during evenings, or include weekends. This is compensated with time during periods with lower workload.
