Accounting, Protocol and Consular Officer (full-time position)

The Embassy of Sweden is pleased to announce a vacancy for the position as  Accounting, Protocol and Consular Officer.  

The Embassy of Sweden in Astana is a small diplomatic mission (two Swedish diplomats and three local employees), which handles Sweden’s diplomatic relations with Kazakhstan by ensuring follow-up of bilateral and EU relations in the areas of political, economic and trade cooperation as well as handling consular and administrative affairs.

The starting date is as soon as possible, but at the latest June 1, 2026.

The salary is based on local salary levels at similar employers in Kazakhstan and will also depend on relevant and verified employment experience. Probationary period – 3 months. Benefits package includes personal leave days (28 days/annually) plus public holidays, health & social insurance including pension.

Job description:

  • Main responsible at the Embassy for accounting and administration relating to payments, purchases and budget.
  • The Embassy protocol focal point for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.
  • Assisting and supporting the Embassy and the Swedish diplomats in their daily work.
  • Translating official documents from Russian and Kazakh to English and vice versa.
  • Handling invitations to receptions and other social gatherings.
  • Maintaining the Embassy's archives, both electronic and physical.
  • Handling consular matters in co-operation with the Swedish diplomats.
  • Assisting when needed in Sweden and export promotion activities. 

Qualification requirements

  • Academic degree in a field relevant to the position (e.g. accounting, administration, linguistics, international relations).
  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience in relevant areas, preferably at an Embassy or international         organisation, civil society organisations, academia or governmental institution.
  • Excellent writing and computer skills and knowledge of appropriate software (Microsoft Office).
  • Excellent team working skills and ability to work independently, take initiative, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in English, Kazakh and Russian. High level of proficiency in Kazakh is particularly demanded.
  • Good judgment and high level of work ethics and flexibility.
  • Excellent organisational, time management and multitasking abilities, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
