Political Officer

Would you like to join our team working with political affairs and public diplomacy at the Embassy of Sweden in New Delhi? We are looking for a Political Officer with strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and solid knowledge of both Indian society and Swedish foreign policy priorities.

General

The Embassy invites applications for the position of Political Officer. The position is based in New Delhi and is expected to commence on December 16, or as agreed. The main working language is English.

Tasks

You will be part of the Embassy’s Section for Political Affairs. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to Sweden’s engagement with India on a wide range of political issues, including foreign and domestic policy, public diplomacy and strategic partnerships.

As Political Officer, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Monitor and analyze political developments in India, and the region.
  • Prepare briefings, reports, and background materials for the Ambassador and senior staff, as well as for Headquarters.
  • Maintain and develop contacts with government institutions, think tanks and civil society.
  • Support the planning and execution of high-level visits, events, and dialogues, with a focus on content development and thematic input.
  • Assist with administrative tasks and coordination within the section.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Academic degree, preferably in a field related to the work of the section.
  • Relevant professional experience (e.g. from a foreign embassy, international organization, think tank, Indian government ministry or agency, or similar).
  • Good knowledge of Indian society, politics, and institutions is essential, including an understanding of current developments, key actors, and the broader regional context. Familiarity with Sweden’s foreign policy priorities and areas of cooperation with India is a strong asset.
  • Excellent command of English and Hindi (spoken and written); knowledge of Swedish is an advantage.

Salary and other conditions

Salary will be based on the candidate’s skills and experience. This is a full-time position.

A security clearance interview will be conducted prior to employment. Employment is conditional upon the successful completion and approval of the security clearance process.
