Four vacancies for Migration Assistants in the Migration Section

Are you interested in joining the team that handles migration matters at the Swedish Embassy? Our Migration Section is currently looking for four Migration Assistants to strengthen and support our work.

General

The Embassy of Sweden invites applications for one permanent position and three temporary positions as Migration Assistant. All positions are based at the Embassy in New Delhi. The expected start dates and contract periods are as follows:

  • 1 permanent Migration Assistant starting on 7 April 2026, with a six‑month probation period
  • 1 temporary Migration Assistant from 13 April 2026 until 31 December 2026
  • 2 temporary Migration Assistants from 2 March 2026 until 31 December 2026

Tasks

You will be part of the Embassy’s Migration Section. The section is responsible for processing applications for Schengen visas and residence permits for Sweden, and handles visa applications from India, Nepal, and the Maldives. The team consists of a Head of Section, two adjudicating officers, and nine locally employed Migration Assistants.

As a Migration Assistant, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Screen and register applications
  • Conduct interviews with applicants
  • Respond to inquiries by telephone and e-mail
  • Work at the reception desk, including assisting applicants at the counter
  • Perform filing and other administrative tasks
  • Carry out any additional duties assigned by the Head of Section

The work environment is dynamic and at times fast paced, requiring flexibility and the ability to adapt quickly to changes and new instructions. The section works in a team‑based manner, where supporting colleagues and helping to balance the workload is an important part of how the team functions.

Skills

  • Flexibility and the ability to prioritise tasks
  • Strong writing skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Very good organisational, planning and time‑management skills, with a commitment to timely delivery
  • Strong teamwork skills, including the ability to build and maintain contacts and networks
  • Knowledge of visa‑related supporting documents
  • Reliable and able to perform effectively.
  • Good computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office programs such as Word, Outlook and Excel.

Language requirements 

  • Fluent in English and Hindi, both written and spoken.
  • Additional knowledge of languages such as Tamil, Sinhala, Punjabi or Swedish is considered as a merit. 

Qualifications and Experience

  • University degree
  • Proof of language skills
  • Prior administrative work experience with Swedish governmental authorities, a Schengen embassy, or an international organization is considered a merit.

Salary and other conditions

Salary will be based on the candidate’s skills and experience. The working hours are 39.45 work hours per week.

A security clearance interview will be conducted prior to employment. Employment is conditional upon the successful completion and approval of the security clearance process.
