The Swedish institute management programme gathers alumni from China to celebrate its 10-year anniversary

The Swedish Institute Management Programme (SIMP) in China celebrates its 10-years anniversary. The event – SIMP China 10 Years – which was held November 12 at the Swedish Ambassador’s Residence, attracted over 60 representatives from the corporate sector, government organisations, media and non-governmental organisations.

In the presence of the Ms. Helena Sångeland, Ambassador of Sweden to China, Ms. Carin Jämtin, Director General of Sida and Mr. Johannes Oljelund, Director-General for International Development Cooperation at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, discussions were focused on what China have achieved in the field of Corporate social responsibility with an outlook into what to expect in the future. The SIMP alumni who are considered experts in CSR in China, shared their perspectives and experiences  ranging from  State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) , industry associations, international organizations.  and on topics such as mining, textile production, sustainable finance and international cooperation.

SIMP is a Management Programme sponsored by Sweden to promote and support responsible leadership and sustainable business practices. It was introduced in China in 2009. It runs every year. 2019 witnesses the 10th Anniversary of its China network with over 150 alumni all over China. In the past 10 years, events like this have been organized by the SIMP China Network each year with different actors working actively on promoting CSR in China. The purpose is to meet up, discuss the importance of collaboration to be able to maximize the impact and create synergies of CSR efforts in China.

“SIMP Alumni, who are stakeholders of CSR in China,are an important network for us to conduct our work”, Mr Anders Wollter remarked, Head of CSR Centre at The Embassy of Sweden in Beijing.

Positioned at the core of Sino-Swedish CSR relations, the CSR Centre at the Embassy of Sweden closely follows Sino-Swedish CSR developments, promotes Sino-Swedish exchange in CSR-related issues, and works to help transform knowledge into policy development and improved practices in company management.

 “During the years, our cooperation between  Sweden and China on increasing knowledge and practice of CSR, and promotion Sustainable Business in our bilateral relations. It is still a unique, constructive bilateral cooperation, we are the only country that has it with China. ” Ms. Helena Sångeland, Ambassador of Sweden to China commented, “China is a vital trade partner to Swe. I hope our two countries can work together towards a more sustainable future.”
