    Sweden on Tour,

    From 25 May to 8 June 2019, the Swedish Embassy will tour the United Kingdom. From Brighton to Edinburgh, we will travel through England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland to meet people, businesses and institutions who together make up the strong relationship between our two countries.

    Sweden comes to Cambridge on 28th of May!

    The Swedish Ambassador Torbjörn Sohlström will visit the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and the AstraZeneca headquarters to highlight the great collaboration in life science research and innovation between Sweden and the United Kingdom. The Ambassador will also acknowledge the 20th anniversary of the Astra (SE) and Zeneca (UK) merger and meet with scientists and researchers from the Cambridge and Gothenburg sites.

    You will get the chance to meet the Ambassador of Sweden to the UK, Torbjörn Sohlström, and his colleagues from the Embassy.

    We hope to connect with some of the 100,000 Swedes and 1,000 Swedish companies who live and operate in the UK. And of course, we aim to meet as many Britons as possible who are interested in learning more about Sweden. 

    • Pop over for some Swedish "fika" (cinnamon buns, biscuits, lingonberry juice and more).
    • Meet some of our sponsors – Scania UK, Fjällräven, Handelsbanken, IKEA, Stena Line and Vattenfall.

    Open event, 28 May, 5.30 - 6.30pm - The Nobel Prize and Cambridge - How the Nobel Prize became the most sought-after prize in the world

    In collaboration with Cambridge University, the Embassy has organised an open event at Trinity Hall on the subject The Nobel Prize and Creativity. With 107 Nobel Prizes awarded to Cambridge and affiliates to date, this award is a key part of the city's fabric as a leading innovation cluster. Dr Gustav Källstrand, Researcher and Chief Editor, Nobel Prize Museum in Stockholm will present the history of the Nobel Prize and Professor Sir Greg Winter, the Nobel Prize-winning biochemist will speak about what it is like to win the Nobel Prize.

    On the occasion of the Ambassador of Sweden’s visit to Cambridge, with Dr Gustav Källstrand, in partnership with the University of Cambridge, come to hear about the history of the Nobel Prize and what it is like to win it. This event is free and open to the public, please sign up via link.

    Gustav Källstrand, PhD, is the Chief Editor of Science and Programs at the official Nobel Prize Museum in Stockholm. He received his MA in the History of Ideas from the University of Stockholm and his PhD in Cultural History from Linköping University. As a researcher, Dr. Källstrand is interested in the cultural history of science, and he has specialized in the history of the Nobel Prize. His thesis dealt with the media history of the prize, and he is currently finishing a book on the history of the Nobel Foundation from 1901 to the 1930s. In 2018-2022 he is working on an ERC-funded project where he looks at how the Nobel Committees evaluated practical utility in nominees for the prize.
