Here you will find information about who to contact or visit when applying for a permit to visit or live in Sweden for more than 90 days, or work in Sweden.
The Swedish Migration Agency (Migrationsverket) is responsible for handling applications from those who want to visit or live in Sweden for more than 90 days, or work in Sweden.
If you have questions about the application process for a Swedish permit (including technical support for e-services, which permit to apply for, requirements, or waiting times), or if you are waiting for a decision and have questions about the processing of an individual case, please contact the Swedish Migration Agency.
Outside of Sweden, certain Swedish embassies handle Swedish migration matters, and may act on behalf of the Swedish Migration Agency to assist with certain steps during the application process for a Swedish residence permit or work permit.
For citizens of New Zealand, and non-EU/EEA citizens who live in New Zealand, Swedish migration matters are handled by the Embassy of Sweden in Canberra.
If you have applied for a Swedish residence permit or work permit, you generally only need to contact the Embassy of Sweden in Canberra if the Swedish Migration Agency has instructed you to do so.
You can contact or visit the Embassy if you want to:
If you (the applicant) want a third party to be able to act on your behalf in your case, including submitting an application, receiving information or documentation, or handling communications, you must nominate your representative by submitting a power of attorney.
To contact the Embassy of Sweden in Canberra in a matter relating to Swedish residence permits or work permits, please send an email to the Embassy’s migration section: embassy.canberra-visa@gov.se.
Sweden’s Honorary Consulates do not handle any matters or in-person visits relating to permits to visit or live in Sweden for more than 90 days, or work in Sweden. It is not possible to do any of the abovementioned steps at any of Sweden’s Honorary Consulates in New Zealand.
