Sweden & Australia

Visa requirements

Here you will find information about visa requirements if you plan to visit Sweden for a period of up to 90 days.

Within the EU (European Union) there is a geographical area called Schengen. The Schengen area is composed of almost all EU Member States, including Sweden, and a few non-EU countries. The EU has established a common short-stay visa policy for visits to the Schengen area of up to 90 days in any 180-day period, and all Schengen countries apply the same visa rules.

If you are a citizen of a third-country (non-EU country) who plans to visit Sweden for up to 90 days, please see the Swedish Government’s information on visas and list of third countries whose citizens require a Schengen visa to visit Sweden.

If you are a citizen of Australia, or another country which is not listed, you are exempt from the Schengen visa requirement.

If you do not need a visa

If you are a third-country national (non-EU citizen) who is exempt from the Schengen visa requirement, you can visit Sweden and other Schengen countries visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period.

Please note that even if you do not need a Schengen visa to visit the Schengen area, other entry requirements may apply.
