A residence permit is a permit that allows the holder to stay in Sweden for more than 90 days, a work permit is a permit that allows the holder to work in Sweden.
If you are planning to go to Sweden, different rules and permit requirements apply depending on your citizenship, your reason for going, and the length of your stay.
If you are a non-EU/EEA citizen who plans to visit or live in Sweden for more than 90 days, or work in Sweden, as a general rule you require a residence permit, work permit, or both. You may be for example;
If you are an EU/EEA citizen, a Nordic citizen, or a Swiss citizen, who plans to live or work in Sweden, special rules apply.
If you have family members who are non-EU/EEA citizens, special rules may also apply to your family members if they are planning to live with you in Sweden.
The Swedish Migration Agency (Migrationsverket) is responsible for handling applications from those who want to visit or live in Sweden for more than 90 days, or work in Sweden.
