For Swedes in Israel

Renewing a Swedish Driving Licence

To renew your Swedish driving licence, you must be permanently resident in Sweden or have been studying in Sweden for at least six months.

If you are temporarily in Israel due to studies, work, or a longer trip, you may still renew your Swedish driving licence and have it issued at the Embassy in Tel Aviv or the Consulate General in Jerusalem.

The application form can be collected from the embassy’s reception during office hours. We do not send application forms within Israel, and you are responsible for sending the application to Sweden by post yourself.

The fee for the issuance of the driving licence is the equivalent of SEK 450 in Israeli shekels. If you applied and paid in Sweden and chose to collect your driving licence at the embassy or the consulate general, a fee equivalent to SEK 200 will be charged.

If you move back to Sweden, you generally do not need to take a new driving test in order to regain your Swedish driving licence entitlement. Contact the Swedish Transport Agency (Transportstyrelsen) to find out what applies in your specific case.
