Getting married abroad or in Sweden

If you are planning to get married in Australia or Sweden, it is important to be aware that the rules and required preparations may vary depending on your circumstances. The process for registering the marriage also differs between the two countries.

The Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket) is responsible for matters relating to registration of marriages in Sweden.

Getting married in Australia

The Embassy of Sweden in Canberra is not authorised to perform marriage ceremonies.

On the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs’ website (MFA), you can find information about getting married abroad and a list of embassies authorised to perform marriage ceremonies.
