Updated information about flights with Qatar Airways

The Embassy has received confirmation that the flight with Qatar Airways from Johannesburg to Doha on June 2 has received approval from South African authorities. Concerning the following planned flights the situation is a bit unclear, so the Embassy recommends everyone who is interested in these flights to keep a close contact with the airline and check with them before reservations are made.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT LUGGAGE ON REPATRIATION FLIGHTS

As we have started sending Swedes on the flights leaving for Europe, we find it necessary to remind you about the rules concerning luggage. Please note that these are repatriation flights and the rules may be stricter than normal. • For the flights to Germany 2 x 20 kgs are allowed. • Golf bags or other over-size luggage is NOT ALLOWED. • Strollers and children’s car chairs are allowed. • Pets are not allowed. • Normal rules apply for hand luggage. • As for the flights to Brussels and Amsterdam, please check on the information sheets you have received.

Important message to Swedes in South Africa

We have now received permission to start the repatriation flights to Europe. The first flights will leave Cape Town and Johannesburg respectively tomorrow Friday at 22.00. The first Swedish passengers will be flying on Tuesday April 7 in the evening. Those departing on Tuesday have already been contacted and those departing on Wednesday April 8 will be informed within the near future. Others that have registered for repatriation will be contacted as the flights thereafter are filled up.

Extension of temporary entry ban to Sweden until 31 August 2020 and easing of restrictions for more travellers

To mitigate the effects of the spread of COVID-19 and reduce the outbreak, a temporary ban on entry to the EU via Sweden is in force. On 2 July the Government decided to extend the entry ban until 31 August 2020. At the same time, the Government decided to ease the restrictions for more travellers. Due to the coronavirus and the temporary entry ban to Sweden, the Swedish Migration Agency has decided that the majority of visa applications will be rejected. This applies if you wish to visit Sweden and are a citizen of a country outside the EU.
