Summer is coming soon and what better way to start off the season than by heading to Battery Park for the annual Swedish Midsummer Festival!
At this unique celebration, adults and children come together to picnic in the grass, decorate the midsummer pole, make flower wreaths, play traditional games and dance to authentic fiddle music. The festival includes both Robert F. Wagner Park and the adjoining Pier A Plaza.
The program features traditional music by Paul Dahlin and fiddlers from the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis, folk dances with Barnklubben Elsa Rix, as well as folk dancing led by Scandinavian folklorist and singer Ross Sutter.
Food stands offer delicacies from New York's finest Swedish restaurants and food purveyors.
