Schengen visas, extended processing time for certain countries

Extended processing time of up to 45 days for nationals of Ethiopia, The Gambia, and Russia (Non-essential travel):

  • On 7 October, 2021, the Council adopted Implementing Decision (EU) 2021/1781, suspending certain provisions of Regulation (EC) No 810/2009 (Visa Code) concerning The Gambia.

  • On 29 April, 2024, the Council adopted Implementing Decision (EU) 2024/1341, suspending specific provisions of Regulation (EC) No 810/2009 (Visa Code) concerning Ethiopia.

  • On 9 September, 2022, the Council adopted Decision (EU) 2022/1500 with updated guidelines on October 3, 2022, fully suspending the Agreement between the European Community and the Russian Federation on visa facilitation for EU and Russian citizens.
