About us

Bilateral relations between India and Sweden have been extensive since India's independence in 1947. Diplomatic relations were established in 1948. The embassy's office, residence and staff quarters were designed by the well-known Swedish architects Sune Lindström and Jöran Curman. The 40,000 square meter park was created by landscape architect Walter Bauer.

The facility was inaugurated in November 1959 in the presence of Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

The Swedish embassy is responsible for the honorary consulates in India (Kolkata and Chennai), Nepal (Kathmandu), Sri Lanka (Colombo), Maldives (Malé) and Bhutan (Thimphu).

The ambassador in New Delhi is also accredited to Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives and Bhutan.

There is a Consulate General in Mumbai.
