Together with our Nordic colleagues, the Embassy will march in the 2018 Capital Pride Parade to support the LGBTQ+ community and advance LGBTQ+ rights. This is the third year in a row that the Nordic Embassies (Norway, Iceland, Finland, Denmark, and Sweden) are participating in the Capital Pride Parade under the banner Nordics For Equality! #nordics4equality
Ahead of the Capital Pride Parade, the Nordic ambassadors will engage in a dialogue about LGBTQ+ issues and rights in the Nordic countries by participating in a Twitter Town Hall together with Human Rights Campaign on June 8 between 10-11 AM. #AskNordicAmbs #nordics4equality.
In conjunction with Capital Pride Week the Embassy will also arrange a screening of the documentary SILVANA in House of Sweden at 6 pm on June 10. Silvana is an intimate love story and filmic journey through the first years of Silvana Imam’s career from underground artist to contemporary feminist icon. Her feminist, anti-racist lyrics, strongly influenced by her sexual orientation, spotlight movements taking place in today's society and embody the voice of a new generation. This film follows Silvana as she wins several major awards and forms an almost mythical relationship with the Swedish pioneer of feminist pop, Beatrice Eli.
Rated PG-13, 99 mins, directed by Mika Gustafson, Christina Tsiobanelis and Olivia Kastebring.
RSVP to attend the film screening here.
