The popular Swedish film series 'Sweden on the Screen' continues on select Sundays at 3 PM at House of Sweden. The screenings are free but registration to attend is recommended. English subtitles.

Rated PG 7. Drama,  111 minutes.

The film shows the world famous Swedish jazz singer, actress and icon Monica Zetterlund's life through stardom and hardship. Set in the glamour and free spirit of the early sixties in Sweden and New York. Monica, a young Swedish small-town girl is dreaming of the vibrant city jazz clubs of Stockholm. She embarks on an intense journey in the limelight as a celebrated singer and actress in the golden era of jazz. Among artists and hipsters her phenomenal success leaves a trail of broken love affairs and promises.

Based on true events, HOLD ME DOWN depicts a day in the life of a 19-year-old single mother who works as a stripper at an illegal nightclub to support her child in the South Bronx. It is filmed in the locations where the events depicted occurred; in the Mott Haven Housing Projects and in an actual brothel, and features a cast of non-actors / women survivors of sexual exploitation and domestic violence.

The film is the unique chronicle about one of Sweden's greatest music legends - Cornelis Vreeswijk. An honest and gripping account of an exceptionally talented, but self-destructive artist's intense life both on and behind the stage. A man who during his whole life was searching for love and confirmation.

Bergman Island, November 11.

In the film Ingmar Bergman is eighty-five years old, having spent more than sixty of those years directing. Now, for the first time, he shows us his world on the desolate and mysterious Baltic island of Fårö. Viewers get to step through the blue gate that bears the notice "Private Area. Beware of Dog". No dog lives there. But that text says that here lives a man who wants to be left alone. A man whose only company is the sea and his own demons.
