11 May 2019
Ever wanted to go to Sweden? Now’s your chance - on May 11 between 10-4 pm we open our doors for everyone to come and experience Sweden.
Take the opportunity to ask a Swede something you’ve always wondered about our Scandinavian country while sampling some traditional Swedish fika and sweets from Swedish company IKEA.
THE BEST VIEW IN TOWN!
Make sure you make it up to our famous rooftop overlooking Georgetown, DC landmarks and the Potomac. This is the perfect spot to catch your breath, relax your sore feet or simply just enjoy the view. We’ve heard it’s one of the best selfie spots in town.
Did you know Swedes eat more sugar and sweets than almost any other country in the world? But we only do it on Saturdays! Lördagsgodis literally means Saturday Candy and is the Swedish tradition of only eating candy at the weekend. Come visit us during EU Open House to indulge in our candy wall sponsored by IKEA.
VOICES OF YARN!
Be a part of the ongoing project Voices of Yarn! Voices of Yarn is an ongoing project from the Guerilla Crafts Festival where you are invited to co-create a carpet completely made out of yarn balls, where each yarn ball represents a desire or a wish. Voices of Yarn is part of our current exhibition #UrbanChallenges taking place at House of Sweden. Make sure to stop by to our all-day workshop during your visit.
Enjoy the current exhibitions on display in House of Sweden. Discover the abstract art of legendary Swedish Artist Siri Berg, whose art has been exhibited at Guggenheim in NYC among others. Her current exhibition ‘Statements’ is free and open to the public every weekend in House of Sweden and will also be visible throughout EU Open House.
Our youngest guests are welcome to our children’s room with ‘Funky Town installation’ where they can create the next smart and urban city as part of our theme this year 👉 #SmartSocieties.
FUN & GAMES!
We don’t want you to leave empty handed. Therefore, in addition to the activities and exhibits, we’ll have different giveaways and competitions for guests to participate in.
Welcome to our open house filled with activities, culture and a variety of Swedish companies.
